Drivers furious after Brisbane decides to scale back one of its most popular road rules

DRIVERS fell in love with this cheeky road rule that let them legally run red lights but now the law is up for review — and not everyone is happy about it.

IT’S already adopted by most Australian states and territories but Queensland has instead backpeddled on the popular “left turn on red” rule in an attempt to mirror New South Wales.

Five years ago, Brisbane City Council introduced the law and bolted “left turn on red” signs to 50 intersections across the city in an attempt to reduce congestion.

But 15 of the intersections that have allowed drivers to legally run red lights are now on the chopping block.

The latest Instagram beauty fad is unnecessary

Quirky beauty trends continue to dominate on Instagram, from weird and wonderful brow concoctions, including coat hanger brows, braided brows and one of my favourites, the Danish makeup-obsessed Sofie Petersen’s crown-tipped version that sees brows worked into tips adorned with diamontes – very regal. So, it makes sense, from a facial perspective at least, that the next new big thing cropping up on the beauty radar would be nose art.

Noses are being decked in decoration with everything from the very tame, artfully-placed, faux freckles applied with a soft, brown eye pencil to bold swipes of eye shadow and a smattering of glitter. Makeup artist Ashlee Summer leads the charge here with her distinctive and quite beautiful nose decorations.

New York’s favourite hotel just opened in Brisbane

As a chain that’s appeared in countless films, TV shows and books, W Hotels has quite the reputation. So its opening in Brisbane was, no understatement, perhaps one of the most exciting developments of the year (so far). Complete with all the quirks we’ve come to love in a modernist hotel, W Brisbane melds sophistication with the character of a boutique offering—and certainly doesn't read like a 312 room tower in the heart of Australia’s third biggest city.
