Family fashion label hits the runway at fashion week

A FAMILY owned and made fashion label with origins sewn in Ipswich is en route to the runway at the 2018 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane.



Three generations of fashion designers and fashion enthusiasts are the passion behind a new dressmaking venture.

Retractable security bollards to be installed in Brisbane CBD

More than $2 million will be spent to install underground security bollards in Brisbane's central business district.



In the 2018-19 Brisbane City Council budget $2.8 million was listed under the project title “City Hall Precinct Maintenance and Enhancement”.

Council to build sport fields on flood-prone land

Brisbane’s flood-prone land has been purchased by Brisbane City Council which will spend millions to turn it into sporting fields.



The 2018-19 budget revealed the council would spend $40 million over three years to deliver new facilities in at least six suburbs.

'The tank's empty': Opposition leader slams Brisbane council budget

Brisbane council Opposition Leader Peter Cumming has slammed lord mayor Graham Quirk’s 2018-19 budget as a “final act of political tragedy”.



On Friday morning, two days after the budget was handed down, Cr Cumming delivered his budget response to the council chamber.

Wayne Bennett concedes Jack Bird’s NRL season likely over


BRISBANE coach Wayne Bennett says Jack Bird’s NRL season is all but over after booking the prized Cronulla recruit for surgery.
Bennett said the Broncos were preparing to “get by without him” for 2018 after ex-NSW star Bird finally succumbed to the sternum injury that has plagued him for nine months.

Bird - who has played just eight games in his first Broncos season - has been booked for surgery on Monday.

The 23-year-old has not been sighted since round 10 but had been hopeful of playing Saturday night’s NRL clash against his former club the Sharks.

Iconic style queen set to judge Rocky fashions on the field

LADIES grab your fascinators and gentlemen grab your ties, it is winter racing time.



The Rockhampton Jockey Club's Winter Carnival starts next Saturday on June 16 with the Rockhampton Girls Grammar Race Day.

Brisbane style queen Dale Olsson will return to Rockhampton to judge the Fashions on the Field again next weekend.

Brisbane to Build Film and Television Studio

The state government of Queensland, Australia, has announced its backing for the construction of new film and TV studios in Brisbane.



The government said it is committing $9.2 million (A$12 million) to the project and described it as establishing “a fit-for-purpose studio for small film and television productions.” The location and initial tenants will be announced in the next financial year.

The announcement was made by state premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, in Los Angeles where she is on a trade mission. Her meetings have also included Disney, Netflix and Technicolor. Other announcements during the trip have included Screen Queensland funding for the second season of “Harrow” and its producer Hoodlum Entertainment; and Queensland resident Darren Paul Fisher being awarded the 2018 Greg Coote Scholarship.

East Brisbane beauty for $1.297m secured under the hammer by family

A SHORTAGE of properties on the market in this tightly held suburb helped the seller of this home secure a price above reserve at auction.


THIS East Brisbane home sold under the hammer to a family for $1,297,000.

Ray White East Brisbane sales agent Madi Roche said the home at 15 Clarendon St had more than 30 groups at inspections and five registered bidders on auction day.

Visitors to Brisbane spend record $165 million in a year

Visitors to Brisbane are expected to have spent $50 million more in Brisbane than the past year, with expenditure tipped to reach $165 million this financial year.



Brisbane’s lord mayor Graham Quirk said the increase on the $113 million from the previous year was because of the city hosting a showcase of events in the past 12 months.

Brisbane floods: Residents in two suburbs to get up to $50,000 to disaster-proof homes

Homeowners in two Brisbane suburbs will be able to apply for a slice of $12 million to raise homes or make modifications to improve their flood immunity, using ratepayer funds.



Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk revealed the $12 million "flood resilient homes" program on Tuesday, a day after a new report found an increasing number of first home buyers were moving into "high-risk" flooding suburbs.

Under the plan, more than 200 eligible households at Inala, south of Brisbane, and in inner city Rosalie will be able to apply for up to $50,000 to modify floors and walls, to relocate electrics and services and raise timber homes.

Brisbane City Council unveils technology to keep feral deer away from traffic

A high-pitched sonar signal is being emitted in Brisbane's west as a way of keeping hundreds of feral deer away from traffic.


Since July 2016 the Brisbane City Council has received about 140 reports of feral deer sightings in the city’s western suburbs and has captured about 180 in the same time period.
